Wetstein, schweiz. Gelehrtenfamilie, aus Kyburg stammend. – Joh. Jak. W., geb. 1594 zu Basel, gest. 1666, war schweiz. Gesandter beim Abschluß des westfäl. Friedens. Sein Sohn Joh. Rudolf st. 1683 als Professor der Theologie zu Basel; dessen gleichnamiger Sohn und Nachfolger auf dem Katheder, gest. 1711, gab einige Schriften des Origenes heraus. Ein I. Heinrich W., gest. 1726 zu Amsterdam als Buchdrucker und Buchhändler, lieferte correcte Ausgaben von Classikern; ein Sohn des jüngern I. Rudolf, I. Jak. W., gest. 1754 als Professor der Theologie zu Amsterdam, machte sich um die Textkritik des N. T. verdient.
