Darauf stellte er seinen Wagen, an dessen Deichsel er einen sehr künstlichen Knoten (gordischer Knoten) angebracht hatte, in den Tempel des Zeus mit der Prophezeihung, daß, wer den Knoten löse, Asien beherrschen werde; Alexander d. Gr. löste ihn durch einen Schwerthieb.
