Castrum doloris

Castrum doloris (Trauerbühne), frz. chapelle ardente (Schmerzenkapelle), heißt die Kapelle oder das Gemach, in welchem sich das Trauer- oder Schaugerüst (Katafalk, Sarkophag) befindet, das zu Ehren einer verstorbenen Person fürstlichen oder doch hohen Ranges errichtet und mit deren Insignien, Orden, Waffen u.s.f. ausgeschmückt wird. Die Anwesenheit der Leiche ist dabei so wenig nothwendig, wie bei dem Trauergerüste, welches in kathol. Kirchen bei Abhaltung der Exequien eines Verstorbenen oder an Allerseelen aufgestellt wird.
