Banfi, Banffy, von der deutschen gräflichen Familie Hadolth abstammend, welche sich im 12. Jahrh. in Siebenbürgen niederließ, nannte sich Banfi (Bani filii, Bansöhne), als Stephan 1282 Ban von Ungarn geworden war. Die B. begleiteten mehrmals hohe Aemter, kommen aber auch in den Bürgerkriegen und Aufständen als Theilnehmer vor; von besonderer geschichtlicher Bedeutung ist indessen keiner.
