Prytaneum

Prytaneum, in mehren griech. Republiken das Stadthaus, der Sitz der Regierung; Prytanen, zu Athen (über die Prytanen anderer griech. Städte ist fast nichts bekannt) der Ausschuß aus dem Rathe (500 Mitglieder), der 35 bis 36 Tage die Geschäfte leitete und nach dieser Amtszeit einem andern Ausschusse, den die Reihe traf, Platz machte; denn die Prytanie wechselte in dem Rathe nach den 10 Phylen der athen. Bürgerschaft, von denen je eine 50 Mitglieder in den Rath wählte.
