Arcesilaus, aus Pitane in Aeolien, um 300 v. Chr. blühend, Stifter der neuen akadem. Schule; er lehrte, daß der Mensch nie eine vollständige Gewißheit erlangen könne, er müsse sich daher mit Meinungen statt mit Ueberzeugungen begnügen; st. zu Athen 241.
