Danzi, Franz, Componist, geb. 1763 zu Mannheim, genoß den Unterricht Torschis und Voglers, schrieb 1780 seine erste Oper »Azakia«, kam später an die Hofkapelle in München, ward 1806 Kapellmeister in Stuttgart, 1812 in Karlsruhe; st. daselbst 1826. Neben seinen dramat. Compositionen (darunter »Iphigenia in Aulis«, die zwei großen Opern »Malvina« und »Turandot«) erwarb er sich großen Ruf durch seine kirchlichen Compositionen; ist jetzt ziemlich vergessen.
