Courts (Kohrts), Name der engl. Gerichtshöfe. C. of record (– of Rikahrd), mit schriftlicher Verhandlung sind: C. of chancery (– Tschänseri) oder Queens bench (Kwihns bentsch), über bürgerliche und Strafsachen, zugleich Appellhof; C. of exchequer (– extschekker), das Schatzkammergericht; C. of common pleas (– kommön plihs), für Real- u. Personalklagen. Zu den C. of non ricord, mit nichtschriftlicher Verhandlung gehören die County C. (Kaunti K.), Grafschaftsgerichte, die Hundered C. (Honndred Kohrts), Bezirksgerichte, und andere; Fälle der Kirchendisciplin werden von dem C. of arches (ahrtsches), dem obersten Gerichte des Erzbisthums Canterbury entschieden. In Schottland urtheilt der C. of session (–seschʼn) in Civilsachen, der C. of justiciary (– dschöstischäri), in Criminalfällen.
