Christian, Karl Friedrich August, Herzog von Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Augustenburg, geb. 19. Juli 1798, als Haupt der Augustenburgischen Linie rechtmäßiger Erbe von Schleswig-Holstein beim Erlöschen des dän. Mannsstammes, stand in den ständischen Versammlungen der Herzogthümer auf der Seite der nationalen Opposition, schloß sich 1848 der Bewegung an und ließ seine Söhne in die Armee eintreten. Nach dem Falle Schleswig-Holsteins wurde er mit seiner Familie verbannt, schloß jedoch mit Dänemark den 30. Dec. 1852 eine Uebereinkunft, in welcher er seinen Gütern und Ansprüchen gegen eine Baarentschädigung entsagte.
