Born, Ignaz. Edler von, geb. 1742 zu Karlsburg in Siebenbürgen, widmete sich nach theolog. und jurid. Studien ausschließlich den Naturwissenschaften und dem Bergbau, wurde 1770 Beisitzer im obersten Münz- und Bergmeisteramt zu Prag, dann Bergrath, ordnete und beschrieb nach Wien berufen das Mineralienkabinet, wurde Hofrath bei der Hofkammer für Münz- und Bergwesen, st. 1791. Er ist der Verbesserer der Amalgamationsmethode bei dem Ausscheiden der edlen Metalle. Seine bedeutendsten Schriften sind: »Ueber das Anquicken der gold- und silberhaltigen Erze« etc. Wien 1786; »Briefe über Mineralgegenstände« Wien 1770; beide Schriften wurden in die europ. Hauptsprachen übersetzt.
