Clarence (Klärens), Herzogstitel für einen jüngern Prinzen des engl. Königshauses stammt von Clarenza, Chiarenza auf Morea, dessen Herrschaft im 14. Jahrh. auf einen engl. Prinzen überging. Diesen Titel führte Georg, jüngerer Sohn Königs Eduard IV., geb. 1449, ein unruhiger Mann, wegen Majestätsverbrechen zum Tode verurtheilt und nach seinem Wunsche 1478 in einem Fasse Malvasier ertränkt.
