Affodille, Asphodelus ramosus L., eine bei uns (wie auch A. fistulosus L.) immer seltener werdende Rabattenzierpflanze von der gewöhnlichsten Cultur, war in der griechischen Mythologie die Pflanze im Gefilde der Manen, daher wohl die Sitte, den Asphodelus auf Gräber zu pflanzen. Die länglichen Wurzelknollen dienten im Alterthum als Nahrungsmittel.
