Byrgius, Justus. eigentlich Bürgi, Schweizer, geb. 1552 zu Lichtensteig in Toggenburg. Hofmedicus des Landgrafen von Hessen Wilhelms IV., 1604 des Kaisers Rudolf II., 1622 wieder in Kassel, gest. 1633, ausgezeichneter Astronom und Mechaniker. Erfinder des Triangularinstruments, des Proportionalzirkels und der Logarithmen; seine Tafeln wurden aber nicht beachtet, daher wurde der Ruhm dieser Erfindung den späteren Nepper und Brigh zu Theil.
