Bode, Johann Elert, Astronom, geb. 1747 zu Hamburg, beschäftigte sich frühe mit Mathematik und Astronomie und schon 1768 schrieb er seine »Anleitung zur Kenntniß des gestirnten Himmels« 9. Aufl. 1822; 1772 wurde er Astronom der Akademie in Berlin und 1782 Mitglied; st. 1826. Weitere Schriften: »Erläuterung der Sternkunde« 2 Bde. 3. Aufl. 1808; »Allgemeine Betrachtungen. über das Weltgebäude« 1801; 3. Aufl. 1834. Sein Himmelsatlas in 20 Blättern umfaßt 17240 Sterne, 12000 mehr als die früheren Karten.
