White, Charles, Romanenschreiber, Historiker, Reiseschriftsteller, geb. 1794 in der engl. Grafschaft Salop (Shropshire), focht in Spanien, nahm 1827 seinen Abschied und lebt seitdem meist auf dem Festlande, namentlich zu Aachen, Brüssel, Berlin (Herbert Milton, deutsch in Aachen 1828, Arthur Beverley, die heimliche Ehe, der Kaschemirshawl, die belg. Revolution im J. 1830, drei Jahre in Konstantinopel, deutsch Berl. 1844 ff., 2 Bde., u.a.m.).
