Tympanitis

Tympanitis, griech., Trommelsucht, Windsucht, die krankhafte, oft sehr bedeutende Austreibung des Unterleibs durch Ansammlung von Gasen. Diese Ansammlung findet entweder im Darmkanal statt (t. intestinalis), in Folge übermäßiger Entwicklung oder Verhaltung der Darmgase, und dann theils als chronisches Leiden, theils als acutes in typhösen Fiebern (meteorismus), oder in der Höhle des Bauchfells (t. abdominalis), in letzterem Falle gewöhnlich Folge von Durchlöcherung des Darmkanals.
