Sanchuniathon

Sanchuniathon, Phönicier aus sehr früher Zeit, soll eine Geschichte Phöniciens und Aegyptens geschrieben haben, die Philo aus Byblus in das Griech. übersetzte (Fragmente, herausgegb. von Orelli, Leipzig 1826). Nach Movers bedeutet S. »das ganze Gesetz des Chon« d.h. das phönic. Religionsbuch, was zu beweisen scheint, daß schon Philo das Publikum unter diesem Titel mit einer Compilation täuschte; 1837 versuchte dies in derberer Manier Fr. Wagenfeld in Bremen, der den vollständigen S. des Philo aufgefunden haben wollte und herausgab.
