Festung an einer seichten Bai des korinthischen Meerbusens, durch die 2 Inselforts Wassiladi und Anatoliko von der Seeseite her gedeckt, hat 5000 E., hielt 1822 und 18232 Belagerungen von den Türken aus, fiel 1825 nach heldenmüthiger Vertheidigung gegen Ibrahim und Redschid Pascha. Hier starben Lord Byron und General Normann.
