Hall, Basil, engl. Seemann, Sohn des Sir John H. (der über goth. Architektur schrieb), geb. 1789, wurde 1802 Midshipman, besuchte als Commandeur einer Kriegssloop 1816 Korea und die Lieukhieu-Inseln (die Reise beschrieb er in einem eigenen Buche, London 1818), kreuzte 1820–22 als Fregattenkapitän in den Gewässern Südamerikas u. Mexikos (Auszug aus dem Tagebuche, 2 Bde., London 1824), bereiste u. beschrieb später Nordamerika, arbeitete auch sonst für die Reifeliteratur, st. aber 1844 im Irrenhause.
