Fairfax

Fairfax (Färfäx), Thomas, Lord, geb. 1611, Feldherr in dem engl. Revolutionskriege, der presbyterianischen, polit. der constitutionellmonarch. Partei angehörig, commandirte zuerst die Reiterei der Parlamentsarmee, hierauf die ganze Armee, erfocht 1645 mit Cromwell den entscheidenden Sieg bei Naseby, wurde aber durch diesen u. die andern republikan. Generale mit Leichtigkeit aus seiner Stellung und von dem polit. Schauplatze verdrängt. Später wirkte er für die Rückberufung Karls II. u. st. 1671.
