Aaron, älterer Bruder des Moses und dessen Gehilfe bei der Befreiung Israels aus der Knechtschaft. Erster hoher Priester der Israeliten, diese Würde auf seine Nachkommen vererbend, als seine Berufung durch das wunderbare Blühen seines vor die Bundeslade niedergelegten Stabes die göttliche Bestätigung erhalten. Er betrat das gelobte Land nicht, sondern starb im 40. Jahre nach dem Auszuge und im 123. seines Alters auf dem Berge Hor, wo noch sein Grab gezeigt wird. Sein Nachfolger war sein dritter Sohn Eleazar.
