Emphysema, griech., Geschwulst, durch Eindringen der Luft in die Gewebe des Körpers hervorgebracht; E. der Lungen, übermäßige Ausdehnung derselben, indem sie nicht hinreichend zusammengezogen werden können, wodurch das Ausathmen erschwert wird; ist gewöhnlich Folge von Geschäften, welche übermäßige Ausdehnung der Lungen fordern, z.B. bei Trompetenbläsern, Tauchern, Lastträgern etc.
