Coote (Kuht), Eure Sir, geb. 1726, wurde früh Soldat und kam 1754 als Hauptmann nach Ostindien, wo er sich bei Plassey und besonders bei der Belagerung von Pondichéry auszeichnete; 1781 commandirte er als Oberbefehlshaber gegen Hyder Ali und stellte durch seine Siege das Uebergewicht der Engländer in Ostindien wieder her, das Hyder Ali bedeutend erschüttert hatte; C. st. 1783.
